Plantar Fasciitis

At DSM Core Chiropractic + Pain Therapy, plantar fasciitis is frequently treated as it is the most common foot pain condition. This condition occurs due to inflammation of the plantar fascia, which is a tough connective tissue that spans the underside of the foot. Plantar fasciitis can cause severe foot pain, making it challenging to complete daily tasks such as walking or running. The foot pain is typically located near the heel, but it can also be felt in the arch or closer to the ball of the foot. In some cases, a "heel spur" may develop, which can be observed on an x-ray.

The most common symptoms of Plantar Fasciitis

  • Pain or discomfort on the bottom of the foot, particularly in the heel area
  • Pain that is worse in the morning or after long periods of sitting or standing
  • Stiffness or tightness in the foot, particularly in the heel or arch area
  • Swelling or redness in the affected foot
  • Aching or burning sensation in the foot
  • Difficulty walking or running, particularly on hard surfaces
  • Pain that worsens with activity and improves with rest
  • Numbness or tingling in the foot in some cases

Treatment of Plantar Fasciitis

Many patients turn to DSM Core Chiropractic + Pain Therapy after exploring other traditional treatment options such as injections, orthotic inserts, or nighttime foot braces for their plantar fasciitis. Effective treatment of this condition involves addressing not only the foot and heel but also the calf, hamstring, and glute muscles as they are interconnected and contribute to the development of plantar fasciitis. Our chiropractic clinic specializes in a unique approach that uses hands-on myofascial release techniques to alleviate tight muscles, tendons, and fascia that contribute to foot pain.
